It’s a pity the movie contains so many lame scenes, especially with actress Amy Adams being a lifeless humdrum who seems like she lost all joy to live.ĭo we really wanna spend our precious time in a theater watching depressing stories about people who wish they were dead?Ī bit more entertaining is the great acting of Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Shannon as the husband searching for his lost wife and daughter, and the cop charged with solving the crimes. They’re just characters written down on paper. What happens next will surely catch your attention … but since we know that everything about this story is fiction – it IS after all the book the female artist is reading – it really doesn’t matter who lives or dies. Four ugly, obese women stand on higher platforms shaking their old boobs, bottoms and every other piece of body-fat around, like the whole thing was some amateurish soft-porn video … yuck!!įortunately, the second story is far more interesting! It’s actually a pretty heavy road-movie/drama where a vacation of a small family suddenly becomes a nightmare when the mother and the daughter are taken by three rednecks. The opening credits of the movie leave no doubt: this is *not* a movie for children or the faint of heart. Here’s a woman who creates art that’s absolutely disgusting and shocking! The biggest problem of Nocturnal animals is how the first story of the artist is immensely boring. The novel that the female artist begins to read … is actually our second story. The story is about a wealthy gallery owner creating some very disturbing modern art (which, to my personal taste, she rightfully calls ‘junk’) who reads a novel of a friend. Either that … or the whole thing is too artsy for my taste! But, as mentioned above, the mixing of these different worlds is not very well done. Nocturnal animals tells two separate stories in two entirely different worlds that, at first, have nothing in common with each other. Though certain scenes are definite nail-biters, the whole spectrum of this weird movie will leave you with more questions than answers after leaving the cinema … and not in a good way! ![]() Heath Ledger said it best as The Joker: ‘Why so serious?!’ĭon’t be fooled by the trailer: Nocturnal animals is *not* a gripping thriller with a Hitchcockian atmosphere. ![]()
